Wood Street Mission is a children’s charity helping families living on a low income in Manchester and Salford.

We provide practical support to help meet children’s day-to-day needs and improve their life chances. Thanks to our amazing supporters, we can help struggling families through our five key projects:

• Family Basics
  Providing families with the everyday essentials such as children's clothing, bedding, towels, baby equipment and toiletries.
  
  
• Smart Start
  Smart Start helps to alleviate the worry of school uniform costs for struggling families by providing new uniform, coats, sports kit, stationery and school bags. Wearing the right uniform helps a child to fit in with their classmates, focus on their learning and achieve their potential.
  
  
• Books Forever
  Books change lives – books can inspire, encourage imagination and creativity, and help improve reading skills. We want to ensure that children can access books even when their families may be struggling. We distribute free books to children at our Book Roadshow events at local schools, and through our Family Basics service.
  
  
• Christmas
  Every year at Christmas, we provide new toys and gifts for children aged 0-14 years old, to make sure they have something special to open on Christmas Day.
  
  
• Childhood Experiences
  This project introduces children affected by poverty to experiences that they might not otherwise have. We organise activities to give children the opportunity to create lasting memories and to take respite from their worries, with fun experiences such as going to museums, theatre trips or adventure playgrounds.
